Developing a graduate course module in Nonlinear Systems class ME5895/ME3295/ECE6095

This course has been offered in Fall 2024, See syllabus.

Example course code on GitHub and Introduction slides of numerically searching for Lyapunov function using YALMIP and numerical bifurcation analysis using pde2path.

This course is also an elective course for undergraduate, which is in Dynamics and Control concentration.

Design of \(\mathcal{FLOAT}\) logo

\(\mathcal{FLOAT}\) refers to Fluid Learning, Outreach, And Transition. The “transition” word means transition to turbulence that is the core of our group’s research, and it also means transition from research to education as well as transition from education to research. The acronym FLOAT also implies two key component of this education program: Outreach to Boat Camp and advising UConn Electric Boat Club. The underwave of “FLOAT” indicates boats floating upon water waves. 

The mathcal font of \(\mathcal{FLOAT}\) in our logo also connects to some standard notation in advanced STEM courses, such as Fourier transform (\(\mathcal{F}\)), Laplace transform or linear operator (\(\mathcal{L}\)), order of magnitude (\(\mathcal{O}\)), linear systems theory (\(\mathcal{A}\)), and general transformations (\(\mathcal{T}\)).
